Conference Location

Hotel reservations can now be made. Please download the hotel reservation form (MS Word) and send the completed form to the hotel of your choice (see instructions on the form).

The conference will be held in the Grand Hyatt Singapore. The hotel is strategically located at the start of Orchard Road, in the heart of Singapore's commercial and entertainment district, and just a 30-minute drive from Changi Airport. It offers award-winning accommodation, superb restaurants, and world-class conference and recreation facilities.

Climate

Singapore has a tropical, hot and humid climate throughout the year. Temperatures reach a maximum of 32-33°C during the day, falling to a pleasant 23-25°C during evening hours. Rainfall is most abundant during the Northeast Monsoon season from November to January. As such, Light and summer clothing made from natural fabrics like cotton is best for everyday wear.

 
Transportation from the Airport

The Airport shuttle bus runs from both Terminal 1 & Terminal 2 to various points throughout the City including Marina Square and Orchard Road (the location of the conference hotel) areas.

  • The airport shuttle offers a scheduled service with flexible routing to almost all hotels within the city (excluding hotels on Sentosa and Le Meridien Changi).
  • The shuttle operates from 9am to 11pm at frequencies of 30 minutes during off peak hours (9am to 6pm) and 15 minutes during peak hours (6pm to 11pm).
  • Tickets cost S$7 for adults and S$5 for children.
  • Bookings are made at the airport shuttle counters.

The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) ride from the Changi Airport station is only 27 minutes to City Hall Station. The fare for a single trip from Changi Airport station to City Hall station is S$1.40. For the convenience of travellers, trains serving the Changi Airport station provide luggage racks and free space in every carriage.

The train service from the Changi Airport station operates at an average frequency of 12 minutes and its service hours are as follows:
  • Changi Airport station to City Hall station
    First train: 5:31am (Mon to Sat), 5:59am (Sun and public holidays)
    Last train: 11:18pm (daily)
  • City Hall station to Changi Airport station
    First train: 6:09am (Mon to Sat), 6:45am (Sun and public holidays)
    Last train: 12:03am (daily)

Taxis are also readily available at the taxi stands at the airport. Also available are public buses that, with transfers, will also take you to almost every part of Singapore.

Getting Around in Singapore

Public transportation by bus and the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system provide access for visitors to most areas of the island. Fares range from S$0.50 to S$1.60. There are also many taxis which can be hired from taxi stands, hailed by the roadside or booked by telephone.

  • The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) is extremely fast. It operates from 5.15 am to 12.49 am with a train arriving every few minutes. Fares range from 80 cents to S$1.80. Each station provides coin-operated ticket dispensers for single trips. Stored value cards (S$$12) are also available which can be used on SBS and TIBS public buses.
  • Public Buses require exact fares which range between 60 cents and S$1.50. A Tourist Day Ticket (TDT) priced at S$10 allows up to 12 rides a day regardless of distance travelled. The TDT is available at Translink ticket sales offices.
  • All taxis are metered and flag fare is S$2.40 for the first 1 km. Additional charges include trips starting from Changi Airport, advance phone booking, trips between midnight and 6am, peak hour travelling, and travelling into the Central Business District.

Currency

The unit of currency is the Singapore dollar (US$1.00 = S$1.80 approximately). Notes come in denominations of SGD 2, SGD 5, SGD 10, SGD 20, SGD 50, SGD 100, SGD 500, SGD 1,000, and SGD 10,000. Coins come in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents and SGD 1.

Food, Shopping and Entertainment

Singapore is the culinary capital of Southeast Asia, and eating out in Singapore is an experience few will forget. You can eat out at open-air food stalls or dine in the plushest of restaurants at world class hotels. In terms of sheer variety, Singapore probably has no rival.

Hawker centers and traditional coffee shop dishes rarely cost more than S$3 to S$4 each whereas dishes sold at food courts (air-conditioned and usually located at shopping centers are slightly more expensive. A meal and a soft drink in a fast food outlet cost S$5 to S$7, whereas restaurants can cost anything from S$10 to S$120 per person, depending upon where you dine and what you order.

An endless range of goods from all over the world are available at prices that are often lower than those in the country of manufacture. Air-conditioned shopping Malls and department stores allow visitors to shop in comfort. Most of these places stay open till 9.30pm daily.
