 Note on Avian Influenza Situation

From the Thailand Ministry of Public Health
November 23, 2005

WHO is not suggesting any restriction to travel as a result of the avian influenza outbreak. WHO suggests that travelers to those affected areas avoid contact with live fowl and poultry farms and ensure that any chicken is thoroughly cooked before it is eaten. For more information about travel, please consult the WHO travel website: http://www.who.int

The current situation of H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in Thailand has been much improved. The latest nationwide active surveillance carried out in all provinces by multi-sector cooperation under the supervision of the Department of Livestock Development has identified H5N1 avian influenza infection (as of 21 November 2005) in backyard chickens in rural areas of 2 provinces.

For more information, about Health Advice for travelers whose destiny is a country affected by Avian influenza, please visit the Thailand Ministry of Public Health’s web site at: http://www.moph.go.th
